  • Is there an audition fee?

    • Yes, it is $40.

    • We accept cash or card only

  • Do I have to be a San Diego State University student to join?

    • No, everyone is welcome :)

  • Is there an age limit?

    • For the fall team, there is no age limit

    • For the winter guard, we must adhere to the WGI policy as stated below:

      • Independent A Class color guards from the United States may utilize performers not over 22 years of age as of 12:01 a.m. on April 1st of any given year.

  • What if I can't attend auditions but still want to try out for the guard?

    • Please email us at sdsuguard@gmail.com for further instructions.

  • What group is the audition for?

    • SDSU Marching Aztecs Fall Guard

  • When will I know if I made the team?

    • You will receive a results letter on the audition day with your audition results.

  • Can I attend the auditions just to spin even though I'm not actually auditioning?

    • You can attend the auditions, you will need to clarify to the staff on the first day if you are attending for experience only.

  • What do I wear for auditions?

    • Form fitting all black rehearsal/dance attire. Dance, jazz, ballet shoes or barefoot is preferred to athletic shoes. Hair must be pulled back and out of the face in a ponytail or bun.

  • Can I bring a guest to watch me audition?

    • This is a closed audition. Guests must stay in the lobby outside the gym.

  • Will there be any food provided?

    • No, but there are plenty of fast restaurants and markets around the campus available and in walking distance for lunch. There is a water fountain outside the gym to refill water bottles. Breaks will be given throughout the day in addition to a 1 hour lunch break.

  • Who will be teaching/judging the auditions?

    • Members of the SDSU fall and winter guard staff as well as some of our clinicians.

  • What should I bring with me?

    • Completed and signed Participation Waiver (must be signed by a parent/guardian if you are under 18)

    • $40 Audition Fee

    • Equipment if you have your own

    • Water bottle/snacks

    • Lunch or money for lunch

    • $10 for a parking permit if you choose to park in the structure (P7). There is street parking available.

    • A great attitude and willingness to learn ;)
